The Aarke Way: Purifier & Kettle with Joakim Nygren

At Aarke, the goal is always to create products that combine thoughtful design, functionality, and sustainability. The Purifier and Kettle, while solving different needs, share a common philosophy and fit naturally into everyday routines. We spoke with Joakim Nygren, Chief Product Development Officer, to explore how these two products reflect Aarke’s commitment to creating meaningful solutions and how they complement each other.

How do the Purifier and Kettle fit into everyday routines?

Joakim - The Aarke Purifier delivers clean, filtered water by effectively removing impurities such as chlorine and unpleasant tastes. The Aarke Kettle complements this by boiling the water efficiently and evenly, ensuring the taste and quality from the Purifier are carried through to every cup.

Filtering water before boiling or brewing is especially important because heating can intensify the taste of chlorine. While these products function independently, they naturally fit into the same daily routines, enhancing the experience from start to finish. Additionally, using purified water with our filter “Pure” helps protect the Kettle by reducing limescale buildup, prolonging its lifespan and ensuring consistent performance.

Why is water quality so important?

Joakim - Water quality affects everything—whether you’re drinking it straight, brewing tea or coffee, or cooking. The Purifier was designed to remove impurities like chlorine while also offering added functionality with the enriched filter, which improves the water’s mineral content. For brewing tea or coffee, starting with high-quality water makes a noticeable difference in taste for most people. Personally, I’d say I can taste the difference—even though I wouldn’t call myself a taste expert *laughs*.

What is the difference between the Aarke Purifier and Purifier Large?

Joakim - The main difference between the Purifier and Purifier Large is their size and capacity. The Purifier is smaller and more compact, perfect for individuals or smaller households, while the Purifier Large is designed to hold more water, making it ideal for families or anyone needing to filter larger quantities.

Another key difference lies in the handle. The Purifier features a glass handle, which gives it an elegant and premium look. For the Purifier Large, we opted for a handle made from ocean-bound plastic. This material choice not only makes the handle more ergonomic and suitable for carrying the extra weight of the larger design, but it also aligns with our sustainability goals by reusing plastic that might otherwise end up polluting our oceans. Both versions share the same high-quality filtration system and design philosophy, ensuring that whichever size you choose, you’re getting the same Aarke experience.

"To me, Aarke is about making everyday moments just a little bit better—whether it’s the taste of your water or the way a product feels in your hands. It’s the small things that make the biggest difference in the end."

- Joakim Nygren

What connects the Purifier and Kettle in terms of design?

Joakim - Both products share the same design philosophy: simplicity, durability, and a focus on user experience. The Purifier uses materials like stainless steel and glass, which not only look premium but also ensure the water remains pure and uncontaminated.

The Kettle, on the other hand, is primarily stainless steel, ensuring durability and avoiding the off-tastes that can come from other materials. Together, they bring a cohesive aesthetic to the kitchen while maintaining practical functionality.

How does Aarke incorporate sustainability into these products?

Joakim - Sustainability is a priority for us. The Purifier’s refillable filter cartridge in stainless steel is a great example—it allows users to replace just the granules instead of the entire filter, significantly reducing single-use plastic. Similarly, the Kettle is built to last, with high-quality materials that ensure it doesn’t need frequent replacement, which aligns with our commitment to sustainability.

“Sustainability is a priority for us. The Purifier’s refillable filter capsule in stainless steel is a great example—it allows users to replace just the granules instead of the entire filter, significantly reducing single-use plastic.”

- Joakim Nygren

What feedback have you received from users?

Joakim - The response has been very positive. People appreciate how the Purifier improves the taste of their water. The refillable filter cartridge has also been a standout feature for those looking for more sustainable solutions. Users also appreciate the thoughtful design—how the Purifier and Kettle complement each other in both functionality and appearance. While they weren’t intentionally designed as a pair, they naturally fit together, sharing the same design DNA and forming a natural connection.

Final Thoughts
